Mercy Marie Squarisch, 78, a native of Houma, La., and a resident of Empire, La., the Belle Chase, La., after Hurricane Katrina, died Wednesday, March 26.


She is survived by her son, Dale Squarisch; daughters, Paul Johnson, Pam Richoux, Pamela Terrebonne and Penny Moseley; brothers, Adam Jr., Bernard, Tommy, Leray, Leroy and Nolan Thibodeaux; sisters, Ruth Hebert, Amanda Thibodeaux, Angelina Staley, Bernadette Chauvin and Liz Sterns; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James “Jimmy” Squarisch; companion, Benjamin “Tex” Hall; parents, Adam Thibodeaux Sr. and Ida Louise Gautreaux Thibodeaux; step-mother, Adele Benoit Thibodeaux; daughter, Peggy Buras; brothers, Michael and Russell Thibodeaux; and sisters, Mabel Yeager, Ruby Chambelle and Rita Chauvin.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. Sunday, March 30 to 8:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, at Mothe Funeral Home on the westbank in Harvey, La. The funeral will be at 12 p.m. Monday, March 31, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Port Sulphur, La. She will be buried at Our Lady of Good Harbor Cemetery in Buras, La.
