Molene Blackwell, 90, a native of Choctaw County, Miss., and a resident of Houma, La., passed away at his residence Wednesday, Oct. 14.


He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jimmie Stephens Blackwell; three daughters, Linda Labit of Los Altos, Calif., Sylvia Burford of Arlington, Texas, and Phyllis Dupre of DeKalb, Ill.; one sister, Iris Pollard of Starkville, Miss.; and eight grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Moses Levell and Ora Lewis Blackwell; two brothers, Ivis Blackwell and R.T. Blackwell; and three sisters, Estelle Smith, Crystal Bruce and Mavis Bruce.

He was a retired guidance counselor for the school board, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Shriners’ organization, and a Deacon Americus of First Baptist Church in Houma.

The funeral service was Saturday, Oct. 17, at First Baptist Church in Houma. Burial was at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Gray, La.
