Ms. Rhea Chauvin Matherne, 89, a native and resident of Houma, La., died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at 5:40 a.m.


She is survived by her husband; Cleveland Joseph Matherne Sr.; daughters, Karen (Douglas) Dupre, Susan (James) Goodreau, Connie (Ted) Torres and Renee (Gary) Fanguy; son, Cleveland (Genie) Matherne Jr.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was an administrative assistant to the Secretary of the Navy and a secretary at St. Francis de Sales and Vandebilt Catholic High Schools. She was Catholic and a parishioner of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. She was a founding member and active participant of St. Gregory Barbarigo Church. She was extremely active in the Louisiana Homemakers Association. She was an avid reader who enjoyed crocheting and traveling.


In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Terrebonne Parish Library.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
