Myrtile “M.J.” Joseph Samaha, 84, a native of Napoleonville, La., and resident of Houma, La., died Wednesday, March 23, 2011.


Mr. Samaha was a parishioner of Maria Immaculata Catholic Church. He retired from Shell Oil Company after 38 years and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3700 and he volunteered at the Regional Military Museum in Houma. His hobbies were fishing, golf and dancing. He was most passionate about his family. He will be dearly missed by friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Ortego Samaha; sons, Mark (Debbie), Matt (Chandra), Michael (Elaine) and Edward Mitchell (Tina); daughters, Christine (Don) Robinson, Cathy (Stan) Degruise, Susan (Roger) Davis and Amy (Jay) Walker; 32 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Anna Mae Songy and Alma Profitt.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Narcisse and Eurine Kern Samaha; sisters, Gertrude Dumez, Josie Domangue and Irene Bourg; and brothers, Michell, Sidney, Aldon and Charles Samaha.

His family would like to thank the staff at the Suites of Sugar Mill Point, Hospice of South Louisiana and Gulf Coast Family Services Inc.

He is buried at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery. (Chauvin)
