Myrtle “Nanie” Delaune, 82, a native of Lockport, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died Friday, October 17.
She is survived by her sister, Madeline D. Landry of Metairie, La.; Alfred C. Delaune of Lockport; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Josephine Claudet Delaune and Sidney Delaune Sr.; sisters, Bernice D. Coates, Josae D. Chetta Nunez and her twin Miriam D. Clement; and brothers, Alvin Delaune, Sidney Delaune Jr., Jules Delaune, Ferdinand Delaune and Henry Delaune.
She graduated earning her nursing certificate from the Hotel Dieu School of Nursing. As a registered nurse with the Louisiana Office of Public Health at Leonard Chabert Medical Center, most of her life was dedicated to her passion for helping those less fortunate to access quality health care. She was a lifelong parishioner of Holy Savior Catholic Church.
Donations to the Delaune Scholarship Fund at Charity Hospital School of Nursing are preferred c/o Doris Burvant, 450 S. Claiborne Ave., New Orleans, La., 70112.
Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday, October 20, at Holy Savior Catholic Church with a mass of Christian burial to follow. Burial will be at Hope Mausoleum in New Orleans.
