January 29, 2010Octavia McCoy White, 82, a native and resident of Boutte, La., died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at 5:48 p.m., at East Jefferson General Hospital.
Mrs. White was a deaconess of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Boutte. She was later named the “mother” of the church. Mrs. White loved to fish.
She is survived by sons, Murphy (Mary) and Donnie (Carol) White; daughters, Rose Rita Paul, Geralyn (Richard) Wright and Kathy Davis; brothers, James McCoy and John Manuel; sister, Ellen Petetant; 23 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Murphy and Eather Howard McCoy; son, Roland White; daughters, Pearl White, Blanche Revader, Gail Bernard, Leola Hills and Eunice Mitchell; brothers, Henderson McCoy, Phillip Markey and Adam McCoy; and sisters, Edna Ingram, Theresa McCoy and Violet Moore.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at Mount Zion Baptist Church. A service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.
She will be buried at St. Mary Cemetery in Boutte.
