‘Crimes of the Heart’: Tragedy, laughs

Oddie Joseph Hebert, 91, a resident of Houma, La., died at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2011.


Mr. Hebert served in WWII as an engineer in the U.S. Army. After the war, he became commander of VFW Post 3700 from 1948-1949 and again in 2000-2001. He was a member of the American Legion, president of the THS Booster Club, president of the Barber’s Association, president of Louisiana Hotel-Motel Association, a founding member of St. Gregory Church and a volunteer for the Red Cross, March of Dimes, Team Spirit and Heritage Manor. Oddie was a barber by trade for more than 65 years and was also the owner of motels in Louisiana, Arkansas and Florida. He was a self made man who was a true humanitarian. He cared for many people who were down on their luck and treated all people and animals with kindness. He will be truly missed by his family and his many friends.


He is survived by his wife, Aline Giroir Hebert; son, Michael (Rhea) Hebert; daughter, Gay Ann Hebert; three grandchildren, Loren (Nic) Moore, and Henry and Kathleen Hebert; and sister, Bettie Bergeron.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lena Babin Hebert; and sisters, Jenetta Thibodeaux and Louise Authement.


The family would like to thank the medical and nursing staffs at TGMC, the rehabilitation staff of TGMC, Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Terrebonne Home Care, Hospice of South Louisiana, the staff and friends of Homestead Assisted Living and his many faithful friends.

He is buried at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
