Oliver Darrell “O.D.” Smith, 73, a native of Picher, Ok., and a resident of Thibodaux, La., died Wednesday, March 19, at 5 a.m.


He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy Ann Smith; son, Terry Bowen Dale Smith and wife Mary; daughters, Susann Kay Smith and Patti Ann Stamper and husband Kelly; brothers, Donald Warren Smith and Terry Lee Smith; sisters, Kay Francis Dunham and Myra Clarene Roberson; and grandchildren, Oliver Darrell Smith II, Cleb Darrell Stamper, Bo David Smith; Kory Dalton Stamper, Jessi Natahnee Stamper and Cheyenne Grabielle Smith.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence C. and Mary E. Smith; and son Darrell Lynn Smith.

He worked along the Gulf Coast as a pipe fitter in Texas City, Tx., from 1957 to 1971. He then joined J. Ray McDermott as a pipe fitter foreman in Singapore, then to General Superintendent in Scotland, Norway, Belgium, Nigeria and West Africa. He was transferred to Thibodaux in 1984. This is where his family now resides. He was a member of Pipe fitters Local #211 in Houston, Tx., and enjoyed fishing, reading, dogs, traveling and spoiling his grandchildren.

He was buried at Havana Cemetery in Havana, Ks.

Samart-Mothe Funeral Home of Raceland is in charge of the arrangements.
