Pearl Marie Marcello Coyle, 81, a native of St. Charles Community near Thibodaux, La., and a resident of Galveston, TX, and former resident of Houma, La., for more than 58 years, died Friday August 17, 2007, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.


She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Don H. Coyle; two sons, Randy Coyle and his wife Claire and Gregory Coyle and his wife Michelle; two daughters, Mary Roden and her husband George and Marcella Coyle; three sisters, Rose Caballero, Jean Haydel, and Iona Bergeron; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Mary Marcello; and two sisters, Priscilla Marcello Robichaux and Kate Marcello Verret.


Pearl was born as the fourth of six daughters to Sam and Mary Marcello December 26, 1925, in Thibodaux. She graduated from Southwestern Institute of Technology, now University of Louisiana Lafayette, with a degree in education. She started teaching in 1946 and taught at Terrebonne High School for 30 years with an unselfish dedication to her job. She was head girls’ basketball coach at Terrebonne High School and a cheerleader sponsor.

She was a devout Catholic and active member of St. Francis de Sales Parish. She also volunteered at Southdown Museum. She was a devout wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother creating fond memories for all. She will be remembered by family and friends; as a woman of great kindness and compassion to all she met.

She is buried in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2 in Houma.

Chauvin Funeral Home of Houma is in charge of the arrangements.
