Phillip Lawrence Verdin, 64, a native of Dulac, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died Saturday, July 25, at 11:07 a.m.


He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary “Lona” Verdin, Houma; son, Rodney Verdin and wife Jarilynn of Dulac; seven daughters, Melissa Ellis and husband Edmond of Hosford, Fla., Phyllis Cotton and husband David of Houma, Rhonda Rodrigue and husband Wadon “Beaver” of Houma, Suzette Hebert and husband Cleo of Houma, Rebecca Strange and husband Joseph of Houma, Leslie Pierre and husband Kevin of Houma, and Amber Marsh and husband Jeff of Houma; one sister, Marlene Foret and husband Reggie of Bourg, La.; two brothers, Morris Verdin and wife Christine of Galliano, La., and Julius “Ivy” Verdin and wife Sylvia of Houma;19 grandchildren, Marty DeHart Jr., Sacreena Theriot, Chase DeHart, Sierra DeHart, Phillip DeHart, Kyle DeHart, Clint Cotton, Shania Cotton, Jordan Verdin, Paiton Verdin, Tara Landry, Trent Rodrigue, Kerry Parfait, Leah Strange, Lexi Strange, Kelsey Pierre, Gavin Pierre, Alaina Marsh and Ava Marsh; three great-grandchildren, Yasmine Theriot, Kadence Theriot and Liam Duthu; and special friends, Ron and Rita Fulton and family, and Jeff and Bev Fulton and family.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert A Verdin and Wilda Dion Verdin; one son, Logan Verdin; and one daughter, Wilda Verdin.

He was Chairman of the Board of Clanton Chapel United Methodist Church, Layleader and Trustee. He was known for his cooking, especially his jambalaya and fried bread. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandpa and a very wonderful friend to all who knew him. He will be sadly missed by all.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, July 27, at Chauvin Funeral Home, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Clanton Chapel United Methodist Church. A religious service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church with burial at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Gray, La.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
