Polly Chandler, 92, a native of Thornton, Tx., and a resident of Houma, La., died Friday, July 18, at Terrebonne General Medical Center.


She is survived by three daughters, Martha Jefferson, of Middletown, Oh., Zonell Walton, of Houma, and Connie Dugas and husband Ray, of Houma; nine grandchildren, Carol Boyd, Cathy Toarmino, James Guidry, Stephanie Haydel, David Walton, Pam Krouse, Gordon Walton, Mike Dugas and Sandee Ellender; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents, William Roe Marshall and Martha Elizabeth Baker; her husband, James Chandler, nine siblings; and two sons-in-law, Richard Jefferson and Paul Walton.

Born May 4, 1916 in Thornton, she moved to Houma in 1942 with her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Houma. She was a member of Eastern Star and founder of the Rainbow Girls. She worked for the Chamber of Commerce and the Draft Board prior to owning her own jewelry store. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed taking care of her poodles, sewing, ceramics and craft work

She was buried at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Gray, La.
