Ralph V. Hargis, 82, a native and lifelong resident of Lockport, La., died at 9:37 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010.


Mr. Hargis held a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Louisiana State University. He was a former principal at Central Lafourche High School, and was a member of Community Bible Church.

He is survived by his son, Vernon Hargis; daughters, Lynn Vidrine, Alma Moore and Claire Hargis; grandchildren, Ryan Hargis, Chad Vidrine, Allison Dimattia, Melissa Ferachi, Erica Hargis, Alshley and Amy Moore; great-grandchildren, Grace and Allie Vidrine and Jackson Ferachi; sisters, Margaret Knight, Elaine Hillman, Beatrice Punch, Betty Folse and Marietta Adams.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie S. Hargis; parents, Alonzo Sr. and Beatrice Foret Hargis; and brothers, Alonzo Jr., Rudolph Sr., William, George and Kenneth Hargis.

Donations made to the Ralph Hargis Memorial Scholarship Fun at Chase Bank in Lockport in Mr. Hargis’ name are appreciated.

Falgout Funeral Home of Raceland is in charge of arrangements.
