Raphael “Ralph” Chauvin Sr., 78, a native and resident of Raceland, La., died at 4:38 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, with his family by his side.


Mr. Chauvin was a parishioner of St. Hilary of Poiters Catholic Church, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a member of Woodmen of the World. A community-minded person, he loved the outdoors, cooking and gardening.


He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Jane F. Chauvin; son, Raphael (Angele) Chauvin Jr.; daughters, Joanne (Larry) Tastet, Lucy (Billy) Chiasson and Molly (Irwin) Boudreaux; brother, Ridley “Buck” Chauvin; sisters, Lorraine Plaisance, Inez Cheramie, Nola Lee Breaux, Agnes Cheramie, Theresa Roundtree, Janette Eilane and Eva McKee; seven grandchildren, Kelly (Jamie) Ledet, Travis (Misty) Tasttet, Amy Jones, Melissa (Chris) Ledet, Joseph Stevens Jr., Jessalynn (Christopher) Cordaro and Andre’ Chauvin; five great-grandchildren, Ridge Benoit, Cullen Smith, Savanah Tastet, Caiden Ledet and Brooke Ledet; and step-great-grandchild, Hayden Ayo.

He was preceded in death by his parents,Simon and Enola Robichaux Chauvin; brother, Simon Chauvin Jr.; sisters, Mary Francis “Fannie Jeandron and Louise Chauvin; and great-grandchild, Andres Alcala.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Center, 602 N. Acadia Road, Thibodaux.

He will be buried at St. Mary’s Nativity Catholic Cemetery.
