Ray A. Rasberry, 79, a native of Orangefield, Tx., and a resident of Berwick, La., for 49 years, died surrounded by his family Friday, October 31.


He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Chaille Guidry Rasberry; three daughters, Patricia Rasberry of Houma, Rebecca Trahan and husband Joe of Berwick, and Susan Blanchard and husband Lonnie of Berwick; two grandchildren, Ryan Jude Blanchard and Katie Elaine Blanchard, both of Berwick; one brother and sister-in-law, W.C. and Ruthie Rasberry of Synder, Tx.; several nieces and nephews and their families from Texas.


He was preceded in death by his parents, P.A. and Beulah Rasberry; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and John Woods and Melba and Maurice McInnis; and his nephew, Clinton Rasberry.

He was an electrician for Sun Oil Company for 35 years before retiring and then owner of Berwick Electric Service for 14 years before retiring again in 1998. He was dedicated to his family, his country and his community. He served in the Marine Corps for four years during World War II and was proud to be a charter member of the St. Mary Parish Marine Corps League. He was a Berwick volunteer fireman for 44 years, served as assistant chief for 25 years and was appointed Fire Chief in 1990 until he retired in 2003. He began his service on the Berwick Town Council in 1990 and he proudly served for 17 years. He was an avid amateur radio operator and was a member of the St. Mary Parish Amateur Radio Club. He was a parishioner of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Berwick.

Funeral service was held at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Berwick, with interment in the Berwick Mausoleum.
