Raymond Joseph Scioneaux Sr., 65, a native of Vacherie, La., and a resident of Chackbay, La., died Monday, April 20, at 2:50 p.m.


He is survived by his wife, Amanda Falgoust Scioneaux; son, Raymond Joseph Scioneaux Jr.; sister, Mary Porrier; brothers, Melvin Jr. and Gill Scioneaux; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Tullier Scioneaux; and granddaughters, Amelia Ann Scioneaux and Caitlin Guidry;

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Sr. and Olivia Rome Scioneaux; brothers, Robert and James Scioneaux; and sister, Nellie Morvant.


He entered the fullness of life on April 20, 2009, in his home due to complications from lung cancer. He was born in Vacherie and lived in Harvey for 35 years and resided in Chackbay for the past 3 years. He served the U.S. Army from 1966-1968 and was deployed to Vietnam during that time. He was retired from Folger’s Coffee Company.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. James Ellis and staff and the staff of St. Joseph Hospice.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, April 24, at Our Lady of Peace Church in Vacherie. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with burial at the church cemetery.

Landry’s Funeral Home of Thibodaux, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
