Rev. J.B. Cherry, 88, a native of Kerens, Texas and resident of Raceland, La., died at 10:46 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2011.


Rev. Cherry was pastor of Assembly of God in Raceland for 50 years, a member of Louisiana District for 50 years and also in ministry for 60 years. He served in Wrecklaw, Texas, Waskom, Texas, Raceland, Bayou Blue, La., and Dulac, La., and was a youth pastor at First Assembly of God in Athens, Texas.


He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gloria Cherry; daughters, Darla Brown and Deanna (Gary) Gorman; brother, Herbert Cherry; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Cora Cherry; son, James Cherry; daughter, Sharon Cherry; brothers, Roy and Gene Cherry and Earl and Cyril Washburn; and sisters, Margorie Loffman, Totsy Cherry and Georgia Airheart.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, July 22 and 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23 at First Assembly of God in Raceland. Religious services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial at Rogers Cemetery in Bayou Blue. (Samart-Mothe)
