Rhea Johnson, 54, a resident of Verdunville, La., died Friday, March 5, 2010, at Ochsner Medical Center in Kenner, La.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Catholic Daughters of American Post 1672, Knights of Peter Claver and Ladies Auxiliary St. Jules in Franklin. She received the Catholic Diocese of Lafayette’s Martin Luther King Jr. Award in 2007.


She is survived by her husband, Lionel Johnson of Verdunville; daughters, Tori (Warren) Walker of Morgan City, Keia (Rhakeem) Vanderburg of Locust Grove, Ga., and Keri Johnson of New Orleans; brothers, Dewitt Jr. and Kirk Lewis; sister, Diedra Pierre, all of New Orleans; three grandchildren, Warren Walker III of Morgan City, Rasheed and Zoe Vanderburg, both of Locust Grove, Ga.; granddog, Ziggy; and a host of relatives.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewitt and Ruth Lewis; in-laws, Lionel Sr. and Marion Johnson; grandparents; godson; and godparents.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Friday, March 12, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Verdunville. The rosary will be said at 11 a.m., and funeral services start at noon. A visitation service will also be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church on St. Bernard Avenue in New Orleans. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Johnson will be buried at Resthaven Cemetery in New Orleans.
