Richard Blaise Samanie, 73, a native of Dulac, La., and resident of Houma, La., died Friday, Dec. 10, 2010.


Mr. Samanie was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. He was a retired co-owner of Gulf Coast Packing Co. in Dulac. He served as a 20 year member of Water Works District No.1 Board of Commissioners and he was an avid sportsman. He was a 1955 graduate of St. Francis De Sales High School and he served in the La. National Guard, was a member of the Houma Gun Club and won 2nd place overall in the state for shooting competition clays in 1970. He was a past member of Little Pass, Whiskey Pass and Terrebonne Sportsman League fishing clubs.


He is survived by his wife, Charlene Samanie; daughters, Donna (Barney) Callahan, Darla (Rickie) Dupre, Debbie (Blake) Hebert and Dawn (Lee) Kilpatrick; brother, Robert (Ruby) Samanie Jr.; sister, Mary Carmen Samanie; six grandchildren, Scott (Liz) Hebert, Jason (Kendra) Dupre, Joey Dupre, Steven Kilpatrick, Rachael (Brian) Hines and Stacy (Chad) Doucet; and five great-grandchildren, Kieran and Kylan Hebert, Dominic and Peyton Hines, and Cecelia Dawn Doucet.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Brunella Voisin Samanie.


A loving husband and caring father who will be greatly missed by all the lives he touched. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the surgery and recovery units of Terrebonne General Medical Center.

He is buried at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No.2.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
