Miss Rita Hutchinson, “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God; in him will I trust.:” Psalms 91:2. Rita A. Hutchinson, loving and caring sister and aunt, died surrounded by her family on July 26, 2008. She was born on May 21, 1939 to the parentage of the late Eugene Hutchinson, Sr. and Otis Arceneaux Hutchinson.

As a lifelong resident of Houma, La., Rita graduated from St. Lucy Catholic High School in 1957. She entered Xavier University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1961. She dedicated her life to the education of children in Terrebonne Parish by serving as an educator and administrator in the Terrebonne Parish School System where she retired after 30 years of service. Rita had an overwhelming love for God, family, and her church. Rita was an active member of St. Lucy Catholic Church and the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court No. 338. She was also a member of the Terrebonne Parish Retired Teachers Association and the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association.


She is survived by two brothers, Elson (Louise), and Irvin Hutchinson; two sisters, Maxine Kline and Aarolyn Hutchinson; two sisters-in-law, Alice and Rosalie Hutchinson; a god-daughter and primary caregiver, Paulette Hutchinson Riley; a host of nieces; nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and devoted friends. It was God’s will for Rita to join her heavenly family, which includes her mother, Otis Arceneaux Hutchinson; her father, Eugene Hutchinson, Sr.; four brothers, Eugene, Jr., Ivory Joseph, Alex and Bertrand (Eloise) Hutchinson; and two sisters, Mable H. Duplantier and Edith Hutchinson.

Visitation will be at St. Lucy Catholic Church in Houma at 1220 Aycock Street, on Friday, August 1, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. until the Rosary at 11 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will begin at 12 p.m., with Father Mark Toups, celebrant, Interment at Deweyville Cemetery.

Her family wishes to offer special thanks to the staff at Terrebonne Homecare, Inc. and the clergy of St. Lucy Catholic Church. At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the St. Lucy’s Catholic Church Building Fund.

Community Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
