Robert Curtis Matthews, 84, a native of Terrebonne Parish, La., and a resident of Gibson, La., died Saturday, October 11, at 4 a.m. at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.


He is survived by his daughter, Annette M. Hammond of Morgan City, La.; sisters, Velina M. Johnson and Doris Mitchell both of Gibson; brother-in-law, William H. Johnson of Gibson; grandchild, Isaac Carnell Hammond II; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Matthews; parents, Andrew Matthews and Ella Cross Matthews; sister, Edith M. Horry; and brothers, Joseph E. Matthews, Ferdinand Matthews and Andrew Matthews, Jr.

He was a retired tacker for Avondale Shipyard.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, at Community Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 16, at St. James Baptist Church in Gibson with burial at the church cemetery.

Community Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
