Robert J. Sykes Sr., 87, a native of Mississippi and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011.
Mr. Sykes was retired after 36 years of service in public school education in Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana as a teacher, coach, guidance counselor, assistant principal and principal. He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Houma, La.
He is survived by his wife, Roxie Sykes; son, Robert Jr. (Renee) Sykes; daughter, Roxanne Sykes; sister, Juanita Glinsky; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewyn and Sammie Sykes; brother, John Sykes; and sister, Daisey Hollrith.
Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 at Thibodaux Funeral Home with services to follow. (Thibodaux)
