Robert Roland Wright, 92, a native of Terrebonne Parish, La., died Saturday, June 12, 2010.


Mr. Wright was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and was awarded the Papal Medal “Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice” bestowed upon him by Pope Paul VI. He graduated from Terrebonne High School in 1934 and attended LSU, where he earned a B.S. degree in civil engineering. He served in the U.S. Army. He received his commission at Fort Benning, Ga., in June 1942 and served in the Pacific theater for three and a half years. He was recalled to service in 1950 during the Korean War and served as a Capt. in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He founded and operated Robert R. Wright Civil Engineers and Surveyors until his retirement and was a member of the Louisiana Association of Professional Engineers and Surveyors, the Society of American Military Engineers, Veterans of Foreign Wars, a charter member of Ellendale Country Club and a life member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a devoted and loving husband and his greatest pleasure was being with his family.


He is survived by his wife, Ruth Pellegrin Wright; sons, Thomas (Harriet) Love and Richard (Diane) Patrick Wright; grandchildren, Margaret, Elizabeth, William, Holden, Timothy and James Wright and Ann Wright Hebert; great-granddaughter, Madison Wright; step-granddaughters, Lynell Ervin and Nicole Dufrene; step-great-grandchildren, Scott Deloach, Alex Dufrene, Ashlyn Ervin and Alyssa Ervin; step-great-great-granddaughter, McKinna Deloach; and several nieces and nephews.

He is buried at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
