Roy G. “Mike” Simmons, 82 lifelong resident of Morgan City, La., died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010.

He is survived by his wife, Gaydel Gaspar Simmons; brother, John R. Drackett; sisters, Jaclyn D. Cutrone and Joan D. Garber; and a host of nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents Roy Edmond Simmons and Katherine and John Robert Drackett Sr.


Mike was a loving and truly devoted husband to his wife for over 60 years. He served as an elder at Atkinson Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Doric 205 Masonic Lodge, a 32nd degree Master Mason with the Baton Rouge Consistory and a Shiner.

He received his masters in education administration from LSU and a specialist in education from USL in Lafayette. While attending both LSU and USL he served as a football assistant coach and recruiter. He was a dedicated coach and educator for over 30 years.

Visitation will be held 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at Hargrave Funeral Home with Masonic and funeral services to follow. Burial will be at Morgan City Mausoleum.

Hargrave Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
