Ruby Mae Navarre Collins, 78, a native of Golden Meadow, La., and lifelong resident of south Lafourche Parish, La., died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011.

Mrs. Collins was a homemaker, adoring mother, wife, sister, daughter, mother-in-law and friend to all who knew or met her. She was a graduate of Golden Meadow High School class of 1951 and was the valedictorian and queen of the homecoming court. She was a parishioner and member of the choir at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church for many years, a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cut Off, La. and a parishioner and member of the choir at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Larose, La. She was active in Alanon, Alateen, and other charities in South Lafourche. She was a past secretary of the South Lafourche Parish Diabetic Association. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, cooking, breadmaking and family gathering.


She is survived by her children, Emily (Phil) Serigne, and Paul Sr. (Laura), Patrick, James (Yvonne), David (Kelly) and Peter (Denise) Collins; brothers, Alvin Jr. (Maybell), Aurestile (Cynthia) and Phillip (Sybil) Navarre; sisters, Beverly (Harrison) Curole, Jeane (Gilmer) Gaudet and Theresa (Gene) Guidroz; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Rogers Collins Sr.; parents, Alvin and Julie’ Felice Boudreaux Navarre; and one son, Rogers “Jay” Collins Jr.

She is buried at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association and any charity of your choosing.
