Russell Joseph Breaux, 86, a native of Bourg, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died Saturday, March 13, 2010.


Mr. Breaux was a parishioner of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. He was a member of the VFW, having volunteered at many events, and past commander of Freddie John Falgout Post in Raceland, La.


He is survived by his wife, Helen LeCompte Breaux of Houma; son, Todd (Nancy) of Thibodaux; daughter, Cindy (Vernon) Vicknair of Schriever; stepson, Rick (Cindy) Melancon of Katy, Texas; stepdaughters, Jane Richards and Peggy Case, both of Houma; brother, Lester (Betty) Breaux of Houma; sisters, Rita Malbrough, Edrith Boudreaux and Laura Lee (Paul) Duet, all of Houma; four grandchildren, Dawn Vicknair of Weatherford, Texas, Myles (Lisa) Vicknair of Houma, T.J. and Kayla Breaux, both of Thibodaux; three great-grandchildren, Molly and Alexis Vicknair of Houma and Bronson Savoie of Thibodaux; eight step-grandchildren, Caroline Richards of Rochester, N.Y., Aimee (Heath) Glynn, David Richards and Claude, Christian and Caitlyn Case, all of Houma, Michelle (Jared) Breaux of Praireville, and Christopher (Trisha) Melancon of Houma; and three step-great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Richards of Rochester, N.Y., Lilliana Breaux of Praireville, La., and Madelyn Melancon of Houma.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthe and Lenoise Scott Breaux; first wife, Ada Grabert Breaux; brothers, Gilmore and Reynold Breaux; and sister, Mary Eve Bascle.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church. A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.

He will be buried at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church Cemetery.
