Sadie Westley Charles, 89, a native of Terrebonne Parish, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died Saturday, Aug. 15.


She is survived by four sons, James Charles and wife Bernadine, Leroy Charles and wife of Rhonda, all of Houma, Robert Charles of Chicago, Ill., and Larry Charles of Hartford, Conn.; one daughter, Joyce Judy Bolden of Houma; one brother, Francis Westley and wife Theresa of Lafayette, La.; two sisters, Janet Robinson of Opelousas, La., and Margaret Fields of Moreno, Calif.; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Charles Sr.; parents, Eddie Westley Sr. and Rebecca Neville Westley; three sons, Donald Charles Sr., Rinard Charles and Benjamin Charles Jr.; three brothers, Eddie Westley Jr., Gilbert Westley and Charles Westley Sr.; five sisters, Daisy Cox, Elsie Thompson, Octavia Taylor, Mable Beauty and Hilda Stoves; paternal grandparents, London and Elsie Moore Westley; and maternal grandparents, Washington and Octavia Theriot Neville.

She was Baptist and a member of St. Luke Baptist Church in Dularge, La., where she served as a Deaconess and mother of the church. She was retired.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Community Funeral Home. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Residence Baptist Church. Visitation will resume Saturday, Aug. 22, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Residence Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow. Burial will be at St. Luke Baptist Church Cemetery in Dularge.

Community Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
