Samuel Peter Bergeron, 79, a native and a resident of Houma, La., died Friday, July 24, at 8:30 a.m.

He is survived by two sisters, Jeannette Bergeron of Houma, and Estelle Byrd and Elda Countess of Huntsville, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Laurentine Marcel Bergeron; three brothers, Roy, Rene and Lucius Bergeron; and two sisters, Nell Matherne and Grace Porche.

He was Catholic and a parishioner St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. He was a world traveler, a talented artist and extremely well read. “Leaves of Grass” by Walt Whitman was his favorite book, which was never far from his side. He loved to fish and garden.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral with mass to follow. Burial will be at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #1.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
