Shelby Lewis Blanchard, 83, a native of Labadieville, La., and resident of Lockport, La., died at 4:50 a.m. Monday, June 23.


He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Jeanne Birdsall Blanchard; one son, Dennis Wayne Blanchard and wife, Cindy, of Raceland, La.; eight daughters, Barbara Blanchard of Houma, La., Carol “Boo” Broussard and husband, Peter, of Houma, Beverly Buie and husband, Guy, of Bayou Blue, La., Marilyn Sinnes and husband, Ron, of Bedford, Tx., Iris Eschette and husband, Raymond, of Lockport, Lise Matherne and husband, Harold, of Raceland, Karen DeBlieux and husband, Jeff, of Houma and April Blanchard of Lake Charles, La.; one sister, Lois B. Blanchard and husband, Eddie, of Larose, La.; 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert S. Blanchard and Agatha Vedros Blanchard; three brothers, Robert, Edwin and Jerry Blanchard; and one sister, Bernice “Bunny” Bollinger.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked for Halter Marine for almost 30 years. He was a parishioner of Holy Savior Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Holy Savior Catholic School or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 3636 South I-10 Service Road, Suite 304, Metairie, La. 70001.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Lockport. Mass will be at noon Wednesday at the church, with burial at the church cemetery.
