Shirley Lee Delahoussaye, 75, a native of Cut Off and resident of Lafayette, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007.


She is survived by her husband, John “J.E” Delahoussaye; four children, Paulette D. Crawford and her husband Billy, John E. Delahoussaye Jr. and his wife Bertha, Phillip Delahoussaye and his wife Holly, and Janet D. Baron and her husband Rick; nine grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, Chase, Casey and Catie Crawford, Daniel and Dane Delahoussaye, Max and Ross Delahoussaye, Jessie and Julie Sellers and Kimberly and Danielle Baron; three sisters, Evelyn Lee Gauthier, Neva Lee Hebert, and Sophie Lee LeBlanc; 23 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and 74 nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Sophie Lee; and one sister, Catherine Lee Fournet.

Shirley was a devout Catholic and served as a member of the Catholic Daughters for 35 years. She was a loving wife for 52 years.


She was very active in supporting her children’s’ and grandchildren’s schools and her church parish, St. Genevieve. Her life was dedicated to caring for her family, where she was a great role model for her children and grandchildren.

Since 1993, she devoted her time to volunteering at the Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic. She has been a founding member of the “Butterfly Ladies,” a group of hard working, caring women who never stop working for the clinic’s mission to provide health care for the working uninsured. In 1998, she was awarded the Volunteer of the Year. She was awarded the 2001 prestigious Women in Excellence Award, honoring women who have attained outstanding levels of achievement and whose contributions have made a significant impact upon lives of the citizens of Acadiana. In 2004, she was inducted into the United Way Volunteer Hall of Fame. She received the 2004 Louisiana Heroine Award of the Louisiana Philanthropy Initiative, which recognizes women for their dedication and generous contribution of time, talent and treasure.

She loved nothing more than going to their camp at Toledo Bend where no one could match her passion for fishing. She loved playing dominos with friends.
