Shirley Anastasia Ruth Delise Delaune, 82, a native of Labadieville, La. died after a short stay at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, Wednesday, October 17, 2007.


She is survived by one son, Charles Delaune Jr. and his wife Debbie; four daughters, Stephanie Rodrigue and her husband Nicky, Charlene Guarisco, Phyllis Prince, and Suzanne Trosclair and her husband Allen Jr.; eight grandchildren, Joseph and Matthew Guarisco, Thomas Prince, Benton, Courtney, and Dexter Trosclair, and Ariel and Kellen Miller; her goddaughter, Lisa; her nephew, Craig Stephens; two brothers, Anthony “A.J.” Delise and his wife Marie, and Lionel “Boy” Delise and his wife Beverly; and many other nieces, nephews and godchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Charles Delaune, Jr.; her parents, Nobie Vedros Delise Talbot and Antonio Delise, Sr.; her stepfather, Laurent Talbot; and two sisters, Lucille Delise Howard and Ruth Delise Benoit.


Shirley a young professional lived in Donaldsonville, La. and as a wife and mother lived in Crowley, La. and Thibodaux, La. She was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Redemptorist Grade School in Crowley. Then St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Thibodaux. At St. Genevieve, she served as an altar dresser and a member of the Ladies Altar Society. She was a volunteer of 34 years at St. Genevieve Catholic Elementary School and volunteered as the cashier of Gym Dandy, a weekly fundraising activity of the E.D. White Catholic High School Mothers’ Club. She was also a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Daughters, Court Anna Maria, and enjoyed numerous other religious affiliations. She exhibited a vast generosity of time, talent and treasure in countless activities at St. Genevieve and E.D. White and spent many hours praying the Holy Rosary, novenas and prayers. She was especially fond of the students of St. Genevieve Catholic Elementary School and her Tuesday and Saturday co-workers and customers at Gym Dandy. She was honored by being inducted to the E.D. White Hall of Fame in 1990.

She will be buried Monday, October 22, 2007, at 9:00 a.m. at Port Hudson National Cemetery, next to her late husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to E.D. White Guardian Angels Scholarship Fund, the Shirley Delaune Memorial Fund at St. Genevieve, or Masses be offered in her memory.

Landry Funeral Home of Thibodaux is in charge of the arrangements.
