Shirley Sybil Ponvelle, 72, a native of Batesville, Ms. and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Thursday, June 4.


She is survived by her husband, Andrew Ponvelle; four sons, Joe, Billy, and Michael Vaughn, and Jason Ponvelle; six daughters, Joyce Belote, Shirley Ann Trosclair, Cathy Earl, Diane Borne, Peggy Vaughn, and Martha Rodrigue; two brothers, Clarence William “Bobby Joe” and Barney Pittman; and four sisters, Jean Pitre, Martha Brown, Mardis Sanders, and Ann Floyd.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Sidney Vaughn; her parents, Noel and Clara Pittman; one son, Raymond Earl Vaughn; two daughters, Dawn LeBouef and Jill Vaughn; one brother, LaVorgia Pittman; and one sister, Mille Ray Pittman.


She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved yard sales and quilting.

The family would like to thank Thibodaux Regional Home Health Care and St. Joseph Hospice.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 7, and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, June 8, at the House of Prayer in Thibodaux, La. with Religious Services to follow. Burial will be at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Thibodaux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
