Thelma Washington Young, 96, a native and resident of Thibodaux, La., died at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, October 1.


She is survived by three sons, Paul Young and wife Muriel, of Jacksonville, Ar., Jerald Young of Thibodaux and Robert Young and wife Margaret of Houma, La.; seven daughters, Joyce Young of Thibodaux, Ann Brown of Thibodaux, Lois Blanchard and husband Lawrence of Thibodaux, Doris Wilson of Thibodaux, Kathryn Frazier of Thibodaux, Valerie Willis of Thibodaux, and Fay Hill and husband Harvey of San Marcos, Ca.; one brother, Sherman Washington Jr. and wife Shirley, of Boutte, La.; one sister, Leola Griffin of Los Angeles, Ca.; 34 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Wellington Young Sr.; her parents, Sherman Washington Sr. and Hattie Simms Washington; three sons, Wellington Young Jr., Ernest Young and Johnny Young; one daughter, Betty Brown; four brothers, Nolan, Lawrence, Welton and Norman Washington; and four sisters, Elnora Henry, Helen Brock, Effie Rogers and Josephine Manuel.

She was a homemaker and a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, October 6, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Thibodaux with services to follow. She will be buried at Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery.

Gertrude Geddes Willis-Terrebonne Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
