Valgene “Choker” Cart, 72, a native of Iota, La., and longtime resident of Bayou Vista, La., died Sunday, March 6, 2011.


Mr. Cart worked for Placid Oil as a Plant Operator for nearly 30 years. After his retirement, he was best known for Cart’s Sausage & Boudin. He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, where was a member of the Knights of Columbus.


He is survived by his wife, Jenora Fontenot Cart; son, Greg (Cindy) Cart; daughters, Monica Mahfouz, Sue (Darin) Ledet, Kathy (David) Shilling, Angie (Michael) Touchet and Cindy (Lance) Coomer; brothers, Burley (Becky) and Barry (Ann) Cart; and 13 grandchildren, Alyssa and Patrick Cart, Timothy and Zachary Mahfouz, Mallory and Abigail Ledet, Elizabeth, Travis and Jeremy Shilling, Kayleigh and Jordan Bourg, and Jacey and Jude Coomer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Velton and Henrietta Cart.

He is interred at St. Joseph Mausoleum in Patterson, La. (Hargrave)
