Velma Samanie Daigle, 84, a native of Bayou Cane, La., and resident of Gray, La., died at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at St. Louis Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.


Mrs. Daigle is survived by three sons, Larry J. Daigle and wife, Ruby, of Bayou Blue, La., Elphege “John” Daigle and wife, Bonnie, of Houma, La., and Wilbert W. Daigle and wife, Christine, of Bayou Blue, La.; four daughters, Dolores Thibodaux and husband, Alvy, Peggy Bourg and husband, Russell, Grace Terrebonne and husband, Perry, of Bayou Blue, La., and Theresa Lirette and husband, Kenneth, of Houma, La.; 17 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 11 great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert J. Daigle; her parents, Orville J. Samanie Sr. and Olivia Caro Samanie; one grandson, Alvy Thibodaux Jr.; two brothers, Anise Samanie and Orville Samanie Jr.; and five sisters, Lydia Sparrow, Justine Harvey, Ella Hebert, Nola Carbello, and Marie Bonin.

Mrs. Daigle was a retired seamtress at Terrebonne General Medical Center, a homemaker, and a parishioner of the St. Louis Catholic Church.
