Vernie Wallace “Wally” Parker, 92, a native of Chanute, Kan., and resident of Leesburg, Fla., died Wednesday, April 27, 2011.

Mr. Parker had a master’s degree from Auburn University and was an accounting professor at Murray State University in Murray, Ky. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He and his wife, Christine, enjoyed entertaining friends, playing Duplicate Bridge and Dominoes, water skiing, fishing, dancing to the Big Bands, and traveling worldwide. He was an active member in the Baptist Church, singing in the choir, organizing trips and activities for the senior “Young at Heart” group.


He is survived by his children, Wallace (Regina) Parker, William (Dana) Parker and Patricia Ann (Loren) Green; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Christine; son, Christopher Lee Parker; and one granddaughter, Michelle Parker.
