Vincent “Scrap” Maggio Sr., 85, a native of Sicily, Italy, and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Saturday, April 30, 2011.

Mr. Maggio served in the U.S. Navy in WWII as a Second Class Boatswains mate. He received numerous campaign ribbons and medals throughout the South Pacific Theater. He served as post commander 1994-1995 as well as all state commander, National Aide-De-Camp and special Aide-De-Camp positions. He was a charter member of the WWII Museum, life member of V.F.W. Post 5097 and lifetime member of Vigilant Chemical and Hose Fire Department for more than 57 years. For many years he served as an usher at 4 p.m. Mass at St. Joseph-Co Cathedral. He was a great fisherman, he was an awesome and inspiring husband, father, pawpaw and bushnel-and-a-peck papierre. He had a quick wit but a quicker smile and hug. He loved his family and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Catherine Perronne Maggio.

He is buried at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral Cemetery. (Landry’s)
