Violet Rhea Rita Smith, 91, a native of Montegut, La., and resident of Houma, La., died at 5:25 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011.
Mrs. Smith was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral and a member of the Catholic Daughters. She loved cooking and spending time with her family and friends. She was a devout Roman Catholic who lived her faith and shared it with many.
She is survived by her sons, Ivy Jr., Danny (Elaine) and James (Caren) Smith; daughter, Therese (Howard) Oubre; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivy Smith Sr.; parents, Eddie Sr. and Celestine Lirette; brothers, Eddie Jr., Bill and John Lirette; and sisters, Libby Rhodes, Leola Bergeron, Pearl St. Romain and Eula Chauvin.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2. (Chauvin)
