Walter James Romero, 60, a native of Berwick, La., and resident of Bayou Vista, La., died Tuesday, June 7, 2011.


Mr. Romero started his life on the water working on tug boats when he was 13 years old. He worked himself up to become a licensed Chief Engineer on various supply and diving boats after he left the U.S. Army. He enjoyed the outdoors fishing and spending time with friends and family.


He is survived by his former spouse, Frances Graham; sons, Joseph (Catherine) and Travis Romero; daughters: Sarah and Laura Romero; brother, Timothy Romero; father, Walter Romero Sr.; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, June Collins; brothers: Mark and Terry Romero; sisters: Ruth Romero, Sandra Riddle and Wanda Theriot; and his grandparents.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Twin City Funeral Home with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephens Catholic Church at 2:30 p.m. He will be laid to rest in the Berwick Cemetery with full military honors provided by the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad. (Twin City)
