Walter Joseph Lapeyrouse, 78, a native and resident of Chauvin, La., died Sunday, November 2.


He is survived by his wife, Della Lyons Lapeyrouse; son, Jude Lapeyrouse and companion Cathy Pellegrin; daughters, Janice and husband Norman Rodrigue and Angela and husband Delbert Dugas; sisters, Viley Picou and Adeline and husband Leroy Souelier; sister-in-law, Eva Mae Lapeyrouse; grandchildren, Renetta and husband Lester Lapeyrouse, Mitzi and husband Joe Nelton, Regina and husband Dean Allemand, Derrick Dugas and wife Heather and Brandon Lapeyrouse and wife Stephanie; and great-grandchildren, Beth, Dean Jr., and Laynee Allemand, Jozie and Alexis Nelton, Austin, Jennifer, Alexis, Brooke and Heather Lapeyrouse and Taylor Dugas.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Modeste Cunningham Lapeyrouse; son, Mark Lapeyrouse; daughter, Loraine Lapeyrouse, brothers, Levis, Alvin, Joe and Waldon Lapeyrouse; and sisters, Lorraine Lapeyrouse and Cornelia Lirette Dugas.

He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus and past president of Chauvin Senior Citizens. He was an active member of Chauvin Senior Citizens and a former tugboat captain for Cenac Towing Company for 25 years. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Chauvin. He was a loving husband and father and a wonderful grandfather who loved his grandchildren and family. He loved to cook his jambalaya and work at odd and end jobs. He will be missed by all.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, at St. Joseph Church with the funeral services to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Falgout Funeral Home of Houma, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
