Warren L. Authement, 94, a native of Cut Off, La., and a resident of Thibodaux, La., died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010.


He is survived by his wife, Shirley Toups Authement; daughters, Sharon (Bill) Simm, and Betty (Rodney) Fontaine; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Eliska Authement; brothers, Jules and Elmo Authement; and sisters, Olga Pierce, Irene Crowder and Norma Brock.


He was the former superintendent of the Lafourche Parish School System from 1971-1977. He received the Durel Award in 1969, the U.S. Army Outstanding Civilian Award and the National Medal of Honor from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. He was the chapter chairman of the American Red Cross, former president and board member of the Bayou Industrial Group, member of the Knights of Columbus, past member of the Chamber of Commerce and Thibodaux General Hospital boards. He was a former charter member and organizer of the Gros Guidry Post, VFW, Larose, La.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph Hospice in Thibodaux.

Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux with mass to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Landry’s Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
