Dr. William Augustus Marmande Sr., 80, a Houma, La., native and resident, died Friday, March 13, 2015.


A parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Dr. Marmande tended to patients’ minds, body and spirit. He also enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing. He practiced family medicine for more than 50 years, and served as chief of staff at Terrebonne General Medical Center. He was named a diplomat for the American Board of Family Practice. He received the Ephraim McDowell Award from the Christian Medical Foundation for excellence in medicine in his field. He donated his time traveling to numerous medical mission trips in Central America and Africa.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Carol Ballay Marmande; children, William Jr. (Sherrell), Edward (Michelle), Madeleine (Lonny) Deslatte, Christopher (Susanne), Patrick (Lauren) and Mitchell Marmande; stepchildren, Dr. Michelle (Mark) Peters, and Paul and Suzanne Simon; 10 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; siblings, Marian Doucet, Marvin Marmande Sr., Patricia Trahan and Burton Marmande Sr.

Burial is at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Theriot, La.
