William Regis Pongrance, 70, a native of Russellton, PA., and resident of Schriever, LA., died Wednesday, March 21, 2007.


Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at St. Bridget Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial at a later date.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Uzzo Pongrance; one stepson, Darrin Rhodes of Atlanta, GA.; one stepdaughter, Jackie Bartels of Schriever; one sister, Elizabeth Gula and husband, Joe, of Verona, PA.; one sister-in-law, Catherine Pongrance; and nieces, nephews and many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his first wife of 32 years, Marie; his parents, Mary Dubiansky and Andrew Pongrance; one brother, Clarence Pongrance; one sister, Rose and husband, Floyd Taylor; and one brother-in-law, Russell Uzzo.

He was a retired aviation mechanic for Mobil Oil in Morgan City, LA. He was proud to have served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Fort Knox, KY., as an aviation mechanic. He was a member of the St. Bridget Knights of Columbus Council No. 12285, as well as a member of the Elks Lodge in Houma.

He belonged to the St. Joseph’s Altar Italian Society and the Schriever Senior Center where he not only participated but volunteered many service hours. One of his charities was building homes for Habitat for Humanity as well as working for the Habitat store.

In lieu of flowers, Willy would prefer memorial donations to his charities: The St. Louis Infant Crisis Center, P.O. Box 2866, Houma, LA. 70361 and the Habitat for Humanity of Thibodaux.
