Controversial airstrip planned for Elmer’s Island nixed by LDWF, Grand Isle officials

William “Bill” Francis Theriot, Jr., 77, passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, surrounded by his loving family and friends.


He was a longtime resident of Houma.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at St. Francis Cathedral on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, beginning at 9 a.m. until the Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at a later date.

William is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Norma McElroy Theriot; sons Mitch Theriot (Allison), Dennis Theriot (Janie), Phillip (Denise); grandchildren Nicole Theriot Gregory (Elise), Gavin Theriot and girlfriend Lauren Rodriguez, Mimi Theriot, Hannah Theriot, Gannon Theriot, Abby Theriot, Saul Theriot, Elizabeth Theriot, Katherine Theriot and Lauren Larpenter and husband Kevin and their daughter Isabella.


He is also survived by brothers Karol and Larry Theriot, sisters Sheila Theriot and Rachel Theriot Williams and special daughter Julie Braud (Donnie).

William is preceded in death by his parents, William Theriot, Sr., and Mae Freeman Theriot; father and mother-in-law, F.J. McElroy, Sr. and Roberta Dorsey McElroy; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Melanie and F.J. Pellegrin Jr.

William was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and provider to many. There are no words to describe how amazing he was to family, friends and those who met him.


He owned South Lafourche Tool and Supply in Larose and was a former owner of Theriot’s Electric Service.

William was a very talented man. He was an avid gardner, woodworker, fisherman, hunter and golfer. He enjoyed trips to the casino and also to his home in Mississippi.

William’s biggest passion was cooking for his customers at work and for his family. He is a former Krewe of Terreanians member for 21 years and a former serviceman in the National Guard.


The Theriot family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Pou, Dr. Adkins, Mell Schexnyder, Haydel Clinic – especially Dr. Dickie and Donald Paul Schwab, the staff and Doctors at Mary Bird Perkins and Haydel Hospice for their care and compassion, especially Patty Voss and Nathaniel.

The family would also like to thank Fr. Mark Toups for his caring Ministry to Bill and family.
