Willie M. Carter Sr., 70, a native and resident of Belle Rose, La., died at his home Saturday, March 13, 2010.


Mr. Carter was a retired foreman for the Union Pacific Railroad.

His is survived by his wife, Ruth Brown Carter of Belle Rose; daughters, Albensia “Bankie,” Abrodella “Dell” and Carnetta Carter, all of Belle Rose, and Larnetta (Daniel) Thompson of Gonzales; sons, Willie “Kevin” Jr. and Gregory (Rolondo) Carter, of Belle Rose; stepdaughter, Cheryl (Derrick) Jones of Belle Rose; stepsons, Steve of Atlanta, and Alvin “Tony” Williams of Belle Rose; four sisters; nine brothers; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.


He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Carter Valentine; father, Willie Merrit; in-laws, Herbert Sr. and Elizabeth Brown; and stepchild, Darryl Williams.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at First Israel Baptist Church in Belle Rose. A religious service, led by the Rev. Irving Brown, will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.

He will be buried at First Israel Baptist Church Cemetery in Belle Rose.

Williams and Southall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
