Robert Howard “Bob” Timmons, died on July 12, 2022 after a long illness. He was born on October 16, 1948 in Guatemala City to Gilbert C. Timmons and Marian S. Timmons.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas J. Timmons.
Bob was a very good-looking natural athlete in his youth. He excelled at sports and stole a lot of hearts. He was a veteran of the US Navy and had been a tug-boat captain in South Louisiana. He was a rebel and an old hippie by his own description. He loved a good argument and a good joint, and always said he had more fun than anyone he knew. Despite a gruff exterior, he had a soft heart and loved his family and friends deeply. Bob was married to two excellent women who both lived to tell about it.
He is survived by his son, Damon Gray Timmons; and daughter, Darcy Kretch Schmidt (Scott); sisters, Shirley J. Timmons and Kathleen T. Lavigne (Gary); nephew, G. Michael Lavigne; and many cousins and life-long friends.
The family owes a debt of gratitude to Kathy Detiveaux, his companion and roommate for the past 5 years, who helped him in his last days, and to Haydel Memorial Hospice for their compassionate care.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at a later date.
