January 18, 1921 – January 14, 2021

Verna Arlene Bakke Buquet, 99, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 4:51am. Verna was a native of Spring Grove, MN and resident of Houma, LA.

Family and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church at 414 Barrow St, Houma, LA 70360 from 9:30am until service time. Ministry services will begin at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 11:00am. Burial will follow services in Terrebonne Memorial Park Cemetery in Houma, LA.


Verna is survived by children, Michael Buquet, Cathy B. McRae, Aubin Buquet and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Paige Bartholomew and husband Mark, Sean McRae and wife Sara, Edmond “Bud” Buquet, Michael Buquet and wife Karla, Gina Nevils and spouse Macki, Lauren Dugas and husband Matthew, Collin Adkisson and wife Kelsey, Sid Roger; and numerous loving great grandchildren.

Verna is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edmond “Bud” Buquet; parents, Oscar and Olga Doely Bakke; brother, Paul Bakke; and sister, Ione Kjome.

Verna served her country in the United States Navy during World War II as a registered nurse. Verna was a loving and caring mother to her children and wife to her husband.


Verna loved spending time with her family, was highly active in her Church, enjoyed traveling across the country, was passionate in reading her Bible daily. Gardening was also a passion for her.

The family would like to thank Peggy Leonard, Mary Rhodes, Elena Williams and The Suites of Sugar Mill Point for the love and care they provided to Verna and family in their time of need.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Evangelical Presbyterian Church at 414 Barrow St, Houma, LA 70360 or to the charity of your choice.


Due to the Covid-19 pandemic; local and CDC regulations require facemask and proper social distancing while attending funeral services.
