Dear Editor,

My recent initiative involves the small fishing village of Leeville, La. I have fished in Leeville since 1991 and have a secondary home nearby. An elevated bypass highway was built around the community several years ago, causing the economic demise of the village.

I have had no outside funding sources. All of my work has been strictly voluntary and my personal funds have provided necessary promotional efforts. I have been successful, in less than a year, in achieving two monumental steps in bringing awareness to Leeville. I have obtained a Cultural District Designation from the Lt. Governor’s Office of CRT, the first in Lafourche Parish. I also drafted legislation in which Sen. Norby Chabert sponsored this session and created the Historical Leeville Fishing Village Cultural and Preservation Commission.

The parish has promised a boat launch to include a fishing pier and pavilion, as a means to bring commerce back to the village. The project has been plagued by various delays without a funding issue. My mission continues to press the political leaders of the parish to make the boat launch a priority. My goal is to enhance and preserve the culture of this wonderful community. Leeville is not included in any levee protection system and has been left to survive on its own.

Can you please share my work with the others by sharing the following link:
