Dear Editor,

Not long ago, I began working in the oil field. I work hard, but I must admit I feel lucky to have a good paying job. I know millions of Americans can’t find work and families are struggling to pay their bills.

With the election coming up, and all the talk about politics, I’ve been thinking about what’s important to me. And I realize it’s simple. My job. Like everyone else, I worry about the economy and my future. I often ask myself what will happen to the oil and gas industry, and my job, if politicians decide to raise taxes on energy companies?

I’ve lived in Louisiana my whole life, and I know energy companies support hundreds of thousands of jobs in the state. Salaries are competitive in the Louisiana energy industry, and businesses are always looking for new investment opportunities.

I think raising taxes on these companies will only weaken the Louisiana economy and national economy. And it will put good jobs like mine at risk. I like my job, and I’d like to keep it. I just hope Congress and whoever occupies the White House next year is listening.
