Dear Editor,

The I.A.C. (Independent Athletic Club) of Thibodaux would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for making our 3rd annual dinner a great success. Without all of you, this would not have been possible.

The I.A.C. was founded in 1959 just so 15 young men out of high school and out of military duties could still play some sports and enjoy themselves after a hard day’s work.

In 1969, we were responsible for bringing Biddy Basketball to the City of Thibodaux and the surrounding areas. We started with 10 teams with 12 players on each team. We only had 11- to 12-year-old kids at that time. In 1973, we held and hosted the National Biddy tourney in Thibodaux. At that tourney, there was a young man playing on a team by the name of Isahiah Thomas. That’s right! The same NBA Hall of Famer played in Thibodaux, La., in that tournament. That is an amazing accomplishment by the I.A.C., the City of Thibodaux and Biddy Basketball.

From that time to the present, thousands of boys and girls have been blessed to have Biddy Basketball in Thibodaux.

There isn’t enough space in this letter to list all the things the I.A.C. has done for sports and other activities throughout the city. It has been a rough but also a wonderful journey that we have traveled throughout these 55 years of existence.

We could not have done great things without the help of the great people of Thibodaux and the surrounding area. So, once again, we want to say “thank you” and “God bless.”

Leroy “Chune” Fremin,

I.A.C. of Thibodaux, Charter Member
