Dear Editor,

The Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free Living (TFL) would like to congratulate Lady of the Sea General Hospital for implementing a 100 percent tobacco-free policy that went into effect on Aug. 1.

While the hospital must comply with The Louisiana Smoke-Free Air Act by maintaining smoke-free indoor facilities, hospital leaders decided to go above and beyond by passing a policy that makes the hospital grounds and parking lots 100 percent tobacco-free.

The policy creates a healthy work and healing environment for both employees and patients by removing harmful secondhand smoke and the use of any tobacco products from the hospital and clinic campuses. It is complemented by the hospital’s other efforts to help smokers quit, including information cards with cessation links and resources available on their website. These tools to help smokers quit underscore the hospital’s commitment to the well-being of both employees and patients. Smokers and tobacco users alike are sure to find the support and resources they need to quit for good.

I applaud LOSGH for making the health of its employees, visitors, patients and those in our community the top priority!

Regional manager, Region 3 (Thibodaux Area) for the
